How To Cleanse and Charge Crystals
Crystals healing properties are very effective at healing because they can pick up or absorb subtle negative energies, imbalances and psychic debris and remove them on your behalf. Negative energy absorbed from people or the environment can affect a crystal’s healing energy and they get overloaded and need to be cleansed from time to time.. It is always best to cleanse your crystals before and after any rituals.
How to cleanse your crystals. There are multiple ways to cleanse your crystals, so here a few to get you started.
Sage- It’s one of the least invasive forms of cleansing, so is great for crystals that aren’t suited to water and salt. With your sage in one hand and the crystal in another or a bowl, pass the crystal through the smoke for roughly 30 seconds. This will efficiently cleanse your crystal. An added bonus of smudging is that it’ll purify the home and yourself at the same time.
Salt-Salt has been used over centuries for absorbing negative energy and for protection.
I recommend sea salt or pink Himalayan salt for cleansing, as table salt often contains chemicals.
Using a glass, wood or ceramic dish, half fill it with salt and either bury your crystals completely or leave them sitting on the top.
Leave for a few hours, overnight or even a few days.
Once the cleansing is complete, rinse thoroughly under running water and pat dry with a natural fiber cloth. Or you may wish to gently brush off every grain of salt to ensure it doesn’t get damaged.
NOTE: Not all crystals are suitable for submerging in water or having contact with salt. As a general rule, if a stone is porous, soft, has a metallic or water element, or has been treated, you’ll need to choose another cleansing method. But there are other exceptions so make sure you check before doing this.
Moonlight or Sunlight- They will fill your crystals with positive and clear energy.
For the moonlight charging, the best time is during a full moon. The strong full moon energy actually lasts for three days, it's ok if you miss the actual day of a full moon. You can catch those moonlight rays on the day before, day of, and day after a full moon.
Many crystals could be really well charged and cleansed in the sun, especially ones that are red, orange, or yellow. You can put them out in the sun for a few hours for cleansing and recharge. However, there are some crystals that will fade in sunlight or change color. Typically these are the pigmented crystals.
Earth - Crystals are formed within the Earth. That is why earth energy recharges crystals and cleanses, releasing the negative energies. Bury or place your crystals in dirt for 6 or more hours to energize and ground them.
Other methods
There are numerous ways to cleanse a gemstone, and all are very effective.
Brown rice (bury the stone for 24 hours and throw rice away after use), essential oils and crystal cleansing sprays are all methods to use also. Choosing a method is mainly down to personal choice, the type of stone and listening to your intuition.
