Candle Magic

Candle magic is a form of ritual or spell work that calls on the element of fire to bring energy and power to your spell or intentions. It’s a simple process where you focus and store your energy and intentions within the candle, then burn the candles to release that energy into the universe.

Black Ritual Candle

If your chakras are out of balance, you can burn the corresponding color of the chakra to help unblock that chakra.

You can inscribe your altar candles with your intentions, a power symbol such as the pentagram, ankh, or ohm, or your own sigil. You need something with a fine point to scratch the surface of the candle. It can be a pin, a scribing tool or a toothpick as you are inscribing your candle, visualize the outcome.
Anointing Your Ritual Candle. A general method is to hold the ritual candle in one hand, dip the first two fingers of the other hand in oil and starting at the wick Run your fingers down toward the center of the ritual and your fingers off, turn the candle slightly and repeat the process until all the top half of the candle is covered. Then starting at the base of the candle, run your fingers toward the center and stop at the center again, turn the candle slightly and repeat the process until the entire bottom of the candle has been coated. While doing this concentrate on your spell or intention.

White Altar Candles

Once the candle is coated in oil, it can be rolled in herbs relevant to the particular spell you are performing. For example, use Mugwort for prophetic dreams and physic visions, Rue for warding off the evil eye and negative energy, use Chamomile for attracting friendship, Vervain for purification and protection and Dandelion for joy and happiness. Once you have lit your spell candle and performed your spell, allow the candle to burn itself out completely. (Be sure to research any oil before using it on any candle for safety purposes)

To clear the energy in your home, office or personal space, burn a black ritual candle first to clear and absorb the negative energy and then burn a white ritual candle to bring in the light and blessings.

When working a ritual or ceremony, use 5 different candles to represent the 5 elements and directions.

  • Yellow in the east - Air
  • Red in the south - Fire
  • Blue in the west - Water,
  • Green in the north - Earth
  • White in the center - Spirit
